La Palazzina is a tiny estate in Roasio, in the Biellese hills of Alto Piemonte, founded as an agricultural company on 20 November 1986 by Leonardo Montà. The 17th-century property has been in the Montà family since 1929. The first commercial bottling came in 1999.
The estate works ~4 hectares of vines spread across the hills of Brusnengo, Roasio, and Sostegno at 300-400 metres, on iron-rich red porphyritic volcanic soils characteristic of the zone. Vines are 10-70 years old, Guyot-trained. Total annual production is around 5,000 bottles.
Philosophy is traditional and low-intervention: hand-harvest, separate vinification by variety, ~20-day stainless-steel fermentation, then long ageing in 35-hectolitre Slavonian botti, no additives or corrections, minimal sulphites at bottling.
The Bramaterra DOC sits between Gattinara's structured austerity and Lessona's perfumed elegance - the same Alto Piemonte volcanic-soil signature, with distinctive iron, spice, and salinity. La Palazzina's Bramaterra runs around 80% Nebbiolo with the balance in Croatina, Vespolina, and Uva Rara - aged ~36 months in botti plus 6 months in bottle before release.
