Elena Fucci

Azienda Agricola Elena Fucci sits at Contrada Solagna del Titolo, 85022 Barile, in the Vulture on the Potenza side of Basilicata, and dates itself to 2000, when Elena Fucci took over a family property that was about to be sold. Her US importer Volio traces the family to 1960, when her grandfather (Generoso, per the producer's own winery page) bought six hectares at the highest part of the contrada.

Volio describes the estate as devoted exclusively to Aglianico. The producer's own pages put Vigna Titolo at 600 m with an average vine age of 45-65 years and an oldest parcel of about 70, on volcanic soil layered from pozzolana, lava, lapilli and ash between bands of clay. By the same pages the vines are trained as short Guyot, alberello and the local capanno vulturino, with field bean grown on the estate as a cover crop on alternate rows. Volio describes the farming as organic.

The winery began in the old premises under the family house, Torre Titolo, where Generoso kept the tractor, extended by a barrel cellar dug straight into the volcanic rock. A new winery was built alongside it, joined by a tunnel through the same rock and designed on ecological principles with recycled materials.

From 2000 to 2019 the estate made a single wine, Titolo, an Aglianico del Vulture DOC (I Grandi Vini). The range now runs to Titolo Superiore and Titolo Riserva, Titolo by Amphora, a Pink Edition, a grappa and an olive oil.
