A friendly, well-made glass that doesn't overreach. Red berries and red apple with a pastila sweetness lead into citrus, brioche, toast and almond, all of it resting on a clean mineral base. Vibrant, delicious and very young - still drawn in primary colours.
Le Mont-Chainqueux is Elise Bougy's home-vineyard cuvee - a Blanc de Noirs from a single lieu-dit in Les Mesneux 1er Cru, planted in 1965 by her grandparents Yves and Marie-Louise Bougy with co-planted Pinot Noir and Meunier on fine sands streaked with iron oxides. The back label says most of what matters: natural fermentations, 100% wood (foudre and barrels), no fining, no filtration, "sans interventions inutiles".
This release: base 2022, raised seven to eight months in foudre and 228-litre barrels, around 21 months on lees in bottle under natural cork, disgorged December 2024 as Brut Nature - no dosage at all. "Vin vivant, acceptez le depot", the label asks - a living wine, expect some sediment.
