Well, I'm aware it's no easy task to spot this as Barolo straight away---maybe only the tannin truly gives it away. In my youthful folly, I'm not too bothered about strict origins, so I accept this wine for what it is. The aroma is compelling: bitter herbs swirled with confiture, a faint brush of tar, and a flicker of liquorice. It feels reasonably evolved, though you'd never guess it's nearly eighteen years old. The structure still shines, with the passage of time adding a touch of grace without losing the firm tannic grip. The finish lingers, and it's genuinely tasty. Feels good to savour it at the end of a long day, and that's enough for me right now.
