It seems like this bottle might not be at its best, possibly due to unfavorable storage conditions. Initially, the nose comes off as quite artificial, with overpowering aromas of mushroom stew and boiled onion, giving the impression that the wine is suffocating. With proper aeration, it reveals hints of gingerbread, spices, and very old, tired fruits---unexpected for a wine that's just 10 years old, especially given its extended time on lees. On the upside, it has nice acidity and a touch reminiscent of Jerez. Unfortunately, the aftertaste is disappointingly short. It's a shame.
