Bel Colle was founded in 1978 in Verduno by Giuseppe Priola and the brothers Franco and Carlo Pontiglione, who at the time were betting on what was then a peripheral corner of Barolo. The estate passed in 2015 to the Bosio family of Santo Stefano Belbo, with Luca Bosio now running things alongside enologist Mario Albrito. The cellar sits on the Verduno ridge and the estate farms roughly 41 hectares across the Langhe and Astigiano on limestone marl and clay soils between 190 and 350 metres. Holdings span several appellations: Monvigliero and Borgo Castagni in Verduno and Bussia in Monforte for Barolo, Pajorè in Treiso for Barbaresco, plus Pelaverga di Verduno, Barbera d'Asti from Bionzo, and Moscato d'Asti from Turna Lunga. Farming is sustainable with hand-harvested fruit, and the cellar approach favours stainless-steel fermentation followed by long aging in large oak, in keeping with the perfumed Verduno house style.
