Tasted blind. Again. Because apparently I'm a masochist (or my friends are sadists). Guessed Friuli, maybe Montalcino. Maybe high-altitude Garnacha. Bardolino. Oh my fucking god. This wine's like a master illusionist - last time it had me thinking warm Pinot or high-altitude Garnacha. Classic barnyard funk meets dried cherry and smoke, with red flowers dancing through perfectly integrated VA. Sure, I'd love more acidity to cut through that juicy, round sophistication, but those grippy tannins hold the whole show together. Still the best thing this winery makes. Still making me look like an amateur (lol, it's actually easy). Twice.
Tasting this wine blind led to quite the surprise, revealing a Bardolino instead of the expected warm Pinot Noir or high-altitude Garnacha!
It showcases barnyard notes, dried cherry, smoke, and red flowers, all intertwined with nicely woven VA. While a bit higher acidity might be preferable, it still maintains a juicy, round, and sophisticated palate. The tannins are somewhat grippy, yet they contribute to an overall balanced and intriguing experience. A delightful twist on expectations.
