The nose is subdued, almost apologetic, with peach yoghurt and candy notes fighting through some volatile lift and dried herbs. Not much fruit to speak of, honestly. Then the palate arrives with aggressive dry tannins and searing malic acid that makes you wonder what happened. There's quince lurking in the finish, clean minerality throughout, and a touch of spice trying to smooth things over. It's technically competent with that mineral backbone.
Blind orange tasting - impossible to place. Pencil shavings, overripe yellow plums, bruised apples. Clean minerality, touch of spice. Tannins present but restrained, good freshness keeps it lively. Turns out it's Hungarian - Királyleányka (Fetească regală) and Furmint blend. Drinks like it could be from anywhere, which is perhaps the point. Well-made orange wine that doesn't shout about its origins.
